'98 Subaru Impreza 22B STi-Version
The Subaru Impreza 22B STi is a limited-production high-performance version of the Subaru Impreza. Designed by Hidefumi Kato and Peter Stevens among others, the 22B STi was intended to commemorate Subarus 40th anniversary as well as Subarus third consecutive World Rally Championship title. It is powered by a 2.2L EJ22G turbocharged flat-4 mated to a 5-speed close ratio TY752VB6SZ manual, with the engine producing 276 horsepower. The car was built from a standard WRX Type R chassis that was modified off the production line with the parts that would distinguish the car as a 22B. Priced at ¥5 million, a total of 424 22B STis were manufactured from March to August 1998 (400 Japan, 24 export), with buyers in the Japanese market selected via ballot; the entire allotment for the Japanese market is said to have sold out between 30 minutes to 48 hours depending on the person.
