Custom '66 Toronado
The Oldsmobile Toronado is a full-sized personal luxury car manufactured for the Oldsmobile division of General Motors from 1966 to 1992. Styled by David North under Bill Mitchell, the first generation Toronado was introduced in 1966; it shared a chassis with the Buick Riviera and was the first American car to feature a front-wheel drive powertrain since the Cord 810 and 812. The power train. known as the Unitized Power Package (UPP), comprised a 455 ci (7.5L) Rocket V8 paired with a 3-speed TH-425 transmission that went into an engine bay no larger than that of a conventional rear-wheel drive car. 40,963 were produced for 1966. Designer Rob Matthes owned a 1966 Toronado in college. This casting features no doorlines as a tribute to Hot Wheelss earliest models.
